Line & Crosshatching

I have a little sketchbook that I keep near the couch. This is my doodling sketchbook and I use it mainly to help practice my pen line weight. There are no rules for the sketchbook, just draw whatever pops into my head and try out different pens. Recently I realized that for the past 40+ years I have using the same crosshatching style, so I decided to experiment. The above samples are some of those experiments, which led to the following images:

The idea for these few doodles was to play with the idea of what "other" (less attractive) mermaids might look like.
